About Us

30+ picture and word essays as we make sense of evolving lives that includes making art and writing. Our studios and lives have merged in the new place. More and more, the entire endeavor becomes one thing. Cottage Industry is a reflection of this process.

What is ordinary is that people

look for something special. But what

is special is when people settle

down in the ordinary.

Shunryu Suzuki, Zen Teacher

The present rearranges the past. We

never tell the story whole because

a life isn’t a story; it’s a whole Milky Way

of events and we are forever picking

out constellations from it to fit who

and where we are.

Rebecca Solnit (The Faraway Nearby)

We began as neighbors at the Artspace Buffalo Lofts residential community in Buffalo, New York. After each living there for about ten years and maintaining our own 1100 square foot lofts, we downsized to live in a cottage in the country about an hour south of the city. We set up our individual art studios in the spacious basement.

These pages reflect upon that change together and individually as artists. More about our individual art practices may be found at patpendletonstudio.com and timraymondstudio.com.

We welcome studio visits from those interested in seeing more.

Thank you for your interest!
